Mother: the Pole Star of our Lives

Image
" Maa ", this term is enough to evoke a cluster of feelings, that of warmth and compassion.  A mother's love exceeds all limitations, and her love is of an unconditional nature.  She bore us all nine months with so much care without ever complaining of the difficulties that she faced. The effort to keep us in good health is still the same. Her contribution to our life is immense. She has sacrificed her precious time, effort and freedom only to provide us with the very best. Can we ever repay her debt? No, never but we must as children, make an effort to work towards their well-being. It is indeed sad to know that children nowadays don’t look after their parents. Nothing can be worse than children adopting wicked ways to mistreat their families. We must always remember that whenever we got sick, our mother was there by our side serving us relentlessly. A mother’s caressing hand is all to cure us from any disease. An embrace, a kiss from a mother is enough to ge...

What is Pranayama?

Image
Pranayama is a Sanskrit compound. It is composed of two elements: Prana + ayama . Prana means vital life force. Ayama can mean several different things. Ayama usually means "stretching, extending, expansion" and when used with prana, it means "restrain, control, stopping". Therefore, pranayama means stopping the breath. Antara kumbhaka which means holding the breath after an inhalation. 3. Rechaka which means exhalation. 4. Bahya Kumbhaka which means stopping the breath after an exhalation. This three-step model is to be applied while performing various types of pranayamas. Pranayama techni...

Soup for your valentine.

Image
Soups are for warming you up in winters and so this makes me try some tomato soup prepared from carefully chosen vibrant red tomatoes. Red afterall is the color of romance. So you can please your loved one this valentines week with this crimson soup as a starter. Dipping the bread crunchies I found that they are totally compatible with one another. The consistency of the soup was worth praising for. The tomato flavour was so enticing that I thought of relishing it the very next day. Garnishing the soup with cream lends it a sweet taste which made it all the more interesting.

The Sunset

Image
The sun is radiating its last glow on this earth. The silhouette of the trees are like the cancerous growth of the impending darkness. Silence has impregnated the world.  The mellow sun reminds me of my mother during her last stages of a deadly disease when she told me: " Pihu, bhalo thakbi Maa ", waiting unwillingly for death to pounce on her. I protested, "I wouldnt let your life ebb away" and sobbed incessantly. "Has anyone ever evaded Death?" True to her word, her body gradually melted away until I could find her no more.
